Wistful Wednesday: Christmas 1963

Sometimes I look back on some of these old photos and I look at my hair and my glasses and shake my head..like this one taken back in 1963. I laughed..so it is okay if you find it amusing too.

Christmas 1963 I was 12 that year, my other baby brother who was part cowboy was 3, and my baby brother was 9.

Mohair sweaters were all the rage that Christmas, as were those stretch pants..I believe I got these clothes for Christmas that year, along with the snazzy looking boots.

In this photo I see the TV off to the left..Moms plant stand behind me, a very short tree, a Dieffenbachia plant, my Mothers sewing machine, and a rag rug on the floor with a few of my other baby brothers new toys.

The old oak floor looks pretty good,my Mother used to use Johnsons paste wax on it and then it was buffed to make it shine.  The oak floor was under many layers of linoleum when the house was remodeled the first time.  Off to the left you can see a section that looks different..we are actually standing in the old pantry and a section had to be put in the floor where the pantry wall had once been.  I can still remember the wonders that the pantry held..especially freshly baked bread.

It looks like it was frosty outside. This roll of film sat in the camera for four months before it was developed, my baby brothers tenth birthday photos were probably on the same roll of film:)

Mot-her! This comment should belong with yesterdays blog, but I am afraid you wouldn't see it there. Who do you think gave you that ornament? Are you having an Alzheimer moment? Do I need to put you in a home? Who collects bunnies? Who are bunnies important to? When you think of bunnies WHO do you think of? Well, apparently you don't think about me, the person who gave you the ornament! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

boy do we ALL have these photos! I love it!
I was 7 in 1963 so I can totally remember this!

I also remember my mother polishing/buffing our hardwood floors to such a shine that if we took our shoes off and just wore our socks we would go "slip, sliding away" on the floor! To be honest, I think that was her intent!

Johnson Paste wax, and wearing dad's old wool socks doubled over on my feet, with the instructions to have fun "all over the floor"!

You are so cute in this picture! I love it! And that you see the difference in the floor and it makes you think of fresh baked bread.

I'm glad you figured out who gave you the bunny ornament!

Jennifer, It is from you!! Sooner or later I knew it would all make sense..thanks sweetie! Of course you are the most logical person since you collect bunnies..I don't know what I was thinking of..I am sorry..I am going to mark it when I get the ornaments out! :)

I am certain I have a similar photo of myself with some of those stretch pants and a mohair sweater. Yes, they were all the rage that year. I remember the static cling that resulted from pulling that mohair over my hair too - big, poofy, electric shock looking hair.

Oh, those rolls of film! I still have drawers full of negatives I'll never look at again, unless something causes me to wish for a memory. Then I'll give up before I find it. I used to have lots of undeveloped film. Now I just have lots of digital copies sitting around on my computer... the more things change, you know. :-)

Ah! Looks like we'll both be 60 next year. ;) Those were the days. Console TVs, real trees, stretch pants with stirrups, cat glasses, floral drapes...yup! All looks familiar Minnesotan to me. ;)
