Tamarac Wildlife Refuge

We live near the refuge, it is one of my favorite places to escape to. When visiting Detroit Lakes and the Avenue of the Flags it seemed like a great way to meander on toward home.
Madison wanted to help a turtle across the road..she was a little afraid of the turtle..so Grandpa helped her out..the turtle peed sideways..and almost got Grandpa. If you are a young girl of 12 or even a old girl of 58 this is pretty funny.
The Canadian Honkers have babies, they are always fun to watch, they are such good parents.
There was a pod of Pelicans forming a line to chase schools of fish.
There were Yellow Lady's Slippers blooming. Catching them in bloom was a bit unexpected, but a beautiful surprise. For people in the area they were blooming heavily between Pine Lake and Tamarac Lake on Sunday. This is the first time I have caught their bloom time in the refuge..so it was a wonderful day for me:)

This is a wonderful chronicle of events at the refuge. We also saw a mother with her twelve ducklings on the weekend. So cute.

I was just catching up. Chance looks like it was a good time for him playing in the water with the kids. Looks like you had a good weekend.

Laughing about your peeing turtle! My stepson picked a turtle up in the road this past weekend and the same thing happened to him! Lovely photos~!

Lovely blooms! And, by the sounds of things, that poor turtle was terrified! (Made me laugh too.)

I also love the lady slippers. I saw a goose with 11 little ones this weekend and was wishing I carried my camera with me all the time like YOU do. It was a lost moment...

today I also so pelicans... flying in formation, as I drove thru the gap where the Columbia River flows down towards the gorge.

and... we had pink lady slippers where I was a child. And it was always a surprise and delight to find them. The yellow ones are wonderful!

I guess turtles peeing sideways is about as silly as my freaky frogs today. whew. I was embarassed...

That is a cool shot of the Lady Slippers. I remember seeing them in bloom on the bank of our cabin. But never in such a large bunch.
